Sue began drawing and writing at the age of three after immigrating to Canada from London, England in 1973.
Although always fascinated by art and science, she bypassed the promise of a career in Medical Illustration to consider broader pursuits. After earning concurrent degrees in Fine Art and Art History from Sheridan College and the University of Toronto, she interned in Silicon Graphics’ marketing department. She studied Computer Animation at night, but drawing, painting and photography continued to be a daily part of her life.
For over twenty years, Sue continued to develop a unique abstract style, experimenting with different mediums and materials. Using handmade Japanese paper, leather, fabric, plaster, acrylics, latex paint, pastels, and crayon, she crafts works that vibrate with colour. Still drawn by technology, she sometimes digitizes her imagery to create fabric and apparel designs.
Niagara has a profound impact on her work. Light and colour are simply ‘different’ there, changing moment to moment. You can tell which pieces were created indoors and which came to life beneath a magnolia or surrounded by vineyards.
Her goal is to evoke something in the viewer that takes them back to their personal moments of peace or power, every time they look at her work. |
